The Matrix was a groundbreaking science fiction film released in 1999. It starred Keanu Reeves as Neo, a human being fighting against the computer-controlled world in the future, called the Matrix. This movie was highly applauded for its special effects (the fight scenes and the detailed graphics) and its deeply intrinsic and well-developed philosophy. In particular, The Matrix was remembered for introducing "bullet time" scenes to the movie industry, in which scenes occur in slow motion as action increases. Overall, the movie was not only a commercial success, but also was well-applauded by critics. As a result, The Matrix later spawned two sequels.
